USTC-IAHS UK Alumni Celebrate Successful 3rd Reunion in Manchester
Mizanur Rahman Mizan : Hundreds of alumni from the Medical Faculty of the University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC) and the Institute of Applied Health Sciences (IAHS) gathered in Manchester on Saturday for the 3rd USTC-IAHS UK Reunion, a memorable occasion marked by friendship, professional pride, cultural celebration and a renewed commitment to community service.

Held at one of Manchester’s premier venues, the reunion brought together USTCian doctors and their families from across the United Kingdom. The event celebrated not only the lifelong bonds forged during medical school but also the significant contributions USTC graduates continue to make within the National Health Service (NHS) and the wider British healthcare system.
The programme was expertly hosted by Dr Surojit Sen and Dr Fahmida Hoque, who guided attendees through a day of inspiring speeches, entertainment and celebration.

Welcoming guests, Dr Nurul Kabir reflected on the enduring spirit of the USTC family and emphasised the importance of maintaining strong friendships, professional collaboration and a shared commitment to supporting future generations of medical professionals.
One of the most poignant moments of the day came when Dr Gopinath Ganeshmoorthy shared his experiences as an international student from Sri Lanka studying at USTC. His heartfelt reflections on the welcoming environment, academic journey and lifelong friendships formed during his years in Bangladesh resonated deeply with alumni from different generations.

The reunion was honoured by the presence of Mr Jobayed Hosen, Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Manchester, who attended as the chief guest. In his address, Mr Hosen praised the outstanding achievements of USTCian doctors working throughout the United Kingdom.
He expressed pride in the fact that USTC graduates continue to make valuable contributions to British healthcare while enhancing Bangladesh’s reputation internationally. He also encouraged alumni to remain connected to their homeland and to contribute their knowledge, expertise and experience towards Bangladesh’s continued development.
The event was also attended by several prominent media personalities, reflecting the growing recognition of the achievements and community engagement of USTC alumni in the UK.
Beyond the formal proceedings, the reunion evolved into a vibrant celebration of Bangladeshi culture. Alumni and their family members showcased their talents through a colourful cultural programme featuring music, dance and poetry. Guest musicians further enlivened the occasion with spirited performances that entertained audiences throughout the evening.

Families and children enjoyed a variety of games and recreational activities organised during the day, making the reunion a truly inclusive event for all generations. Guests were also treated to an extensive selection of authentic Bangladeshi cuisine, enjoyed by attendees who had travelled from different parts of the country.
As the reunion concluded, it was evident that the event had achieved far more than simply reconnecting former classmates. It reaffirmed the enduring values of friendship, professional excellence and community service that continue to unite USTCians around the world.
