Bangladesh business chiefs meet in Hyde

THE British Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BBCCI) held its first ever face-to-face meeting with the organisation’s newly-formed North West regional committee in Hyde.

The BBCCI North West Region organised the special discussion at Adnan’s Restaurant, Market Street.

The aim of the meeting was to exchange views between members from the region, gain guidance from the central executive committee and advisors and discuss the organisation’s future operations.

The BBCCI was set up as a business support group in 1991 by a group of British Bangladeshi businessmen in the UK with the aim to promote, protect and strengthen bilateral trade and commerce between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom. The organisation also promotes investments, joint ventures, business research and development in both countries.

The BBCCI North West regional committee was formed in early 2021.

The meeting was chaired by Mizanur Rahman Mizan, president of BBCCI North West region, and also a director. Abdul Malik-Ahad, a member, presented the event.

The meeting opened with recitation from the holy Quran by Haji Saad Miah, followed by welcome and introduction by North West president Mizan.

Shahgir Bakth Faruk, director and head of the BBCCI advisory group, offered special prayers for the departed souls and those affected by Covid-19.

Delegates from the central committee and advisors spoke, including director general Sayedur Rahman Ranu, senior vice president Mohib Uddin Choudhury, London regional president A.K.M Nurujjaman, international relations director Abdul Momen, director Councillor Jahangir Haque, and director Abdul Wasay Chowdhury.

The speakers praised the work ethics of the BBCCI, especially as it has continued carrying out various activities during the pandemic.

They provided valuable advice and feedback to members from the region and added that the BBCCI has been working for a long time to address various issues faced by businesses, as a result of which members are more engaged and different regional committees have become stronger.

BBCCI president Bashir Ahmed was the chief guest and he outlined his vision for the organisation, saying: “We are working to expand services through all regions, which include events like this, and also meeting local chambers and business networks.”

Among speakers from the region were Ruhul Amin Chowdhury, Nasir Khan Shoeb, Syed Faysal, Abdul Halim Chowdhury, Roop Chand Das Roopak, and Mohsin Miah who shared their views on the operations and aspirations of the region.

At the end of the meeting, the North West region was congratulated by the delegates from the centre and a crest was awarded to the region appreciating their work for the BBCCI.

The region gave Muzahid Khan DL a recognition award for being appointed a deputy lord lieutenant of Greater Manchester.

Muzahid Khan DL, and secretary of the region closed the meeting with vote of thanks.
